Staff Relocation

How many civil service jobs from your department and its agencies have been relocated out of London and the south east since 2003?
Please break down the numbers by year: ie 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.

The Department for International Development (DFID) has two headquarter locations in the UK: one in London and the other in East Kilbride, near Glasgow. DFID does not have any agencies.

Under the Lyons Review, DFID had a specific commitment to relocate 85 posts from our London to East Kilbride office from 2004 onwards. We had achieved this target by March 2006, when a total of 88 posts had been relocated.

The breakdown by financial year is as follows:

2003-2004: 5 posts
2004-2005: 40 posts
2005-2006: 43 posts

Some additional posts will have been relocated after this date to suit the business needs of the Department, but we do not hold a central record of these cases.

How does this compare to any targets set under the Gershon efficiency programme?

The following table shows our Home Civil Service staffing figures since 2004, indicating progress against our Gershon efficiency targets. This will give you an indication of the flow in our staffing numbers between our HQ locations between 2004 and 2008.
