About Policy and Research Division
The purpose of the division is to produce high quality policy work for which there is a genuine demand, work that makes a real impact on poor people and at the same time helps towards reaching the challenging Millennium Development Goals.
Central Research Department (CRD) moved into Policy Division to form Policy and Research Division (PRD) on 23 October 2006. Sam Sharpe is acting director of the new division until Andrew Steer takes up his appointment as Director in April 2007. The PRD Director is supported by six heads of group and department who will continue to be assisted by one or more senior-level Heads of Profession covering DFID's range of advisory skills.
The Development Effectiveness Group moved from Policy Division to form part of the new Global Development Effectiveness Division (GDED). PRD will continue working closely with GDED - particularly to promote effective scaling-up of global aid flows, and strong support for country-led development. This will give DFID more capacity to engage internationally on these important agendas.
