Conflict and Humanitarian Fund (CHF)

DFID’s Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Department (CHASE) works with other DFID departments, other UK Government Departments and international partners to tackle humanitarian, conflict, security and justice issues that underpin poverty in some of the most vulnerable communities around the world. Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have a critical role to play in meeting these aims.

Applications for the 2008 CHF project Competition are now invited from not-for profit organisations. Full information about the CHF, including the priority areas for the 2008 competition, eligibility and appraisal criteria and how to apply, can be found in the Guidelinespdf(74 kb) and Frequently Asked Questionspdf(21 kb).

The CHF has expanded rapidly since it was set up in 2005 and the level of existing commitments is high. CHASE is currently providing funding from the CHF of around £15 million a year, for forty-five unearmarked and project funding arrangements. Nearly all of these are due to continue for at least another year. Therefore we expect to be able to take on only a few new arrangements in this round of funding. This competition is therefore limited to project applications. Only applications that fall within the three priority areas set out in the Guidelines will be considered in this competition. There may be another opportunity to apply for unearmarked funding in 2008.

Eligible organisations

Not-for-profit organisations that share CHASE’s aim. Applications from consortia of CSOs are welcome. The CHF is not able to fund country-specific projects – please refer to the 2008 competition Guidelines for full details.

Application process

Applications consist of two steps.

  1. Submission of a concept note to CHASE.
  2. If the concept note is short-listed, we will invite you to submit a full proposal. Organisations may submit more than one concept note.

A full explanation and criteria for applying can be found in the document below, entitled ‘CHF Guidelines 2008’
