Pre-application checks

Before applying for any vacancies please ensure that you:

  • meet the necessary eligibility criteria detailed in the vacancy advert;
  • have any essential qualifications/ experience specified in the advert.

Tips for preparing your application

Consider your suitability against the main duties of the job and the key competencies and experience required.

Some questions to ask yourself may be:

  • What work have I done that is relevant?
  • What relevant competencies have I demonstrated in my current or previous jobs, at that level?
  • Where I am unable to demonstrate a competence, is there anything that would provide an indicator of my potential to acquire it?

You will be able to view more detailed information on any DFID vacancy advertised, by using the link to ‘specific vacancy information’ at the end of each advert.

Completing the application form

Having considered the points above, you should proceed to completing the application form.

When completing your form, make best use of the space provided to address the competencies and skills specified in the advert, showing how your experience is relevant.

Refer to the competency framework to remind yourself of the skills and attributes which make up each competence.

Remember to read through your application and check spelling and grammar before submitting.
